A Gummy smile can make you self-conscious when you talk or laugh and can hold you back from overly expressing yourself. Gummy smiles are usually explained as a large portion of your gums showing whenever you smile or laugh.

There are many factors that contribute to the gummy smile. The most common cause is hyperactivity of the muscles which lift the upper lip. Occasionally, the gummy smile is also aggravated by a thin upper lip that further exaggerates the problem, by exposing the upper gum even more.

In the past, gummy smiles were corrected with surgery. Today, in many instances, a gummy smile can be simply and effectively corrected with injections to reduce the activity of the muscle that elevates the upper lip.
Our resident aesthetic dentist can assess your smile, provide you with more information and discuss whether this treatment would be beneficial for you.
